Prayers for the repose of the soul of the Rev. Lloyd H. Winter

The Rev. Lloyd H. Winter - a friend, coworker and leader in this diocese for more than 40 years – passed away on Friday, June 7. His funeral will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 22 at The Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral, 23 S. 38th St, Philadelphia, PA 19104. Bishop Daniel will preside.

“While the Rev. Lloyd Winter served on the staff of the Bishop, it was I who was lead deeper into the meaning of servanthood because of his ministry," said Bishop Daniel. "Over the past three years, I witnessed a heart centered in Jesus Christ. Father Lloyd had a ready smile, a keen intellect, detailed administrative gifts and an infectious love of Jesus. He cared deeply about the Episcopal Church, retired clergy and his peers in this diocese. The entire Diocese of Pennsylvania was uplifted and encouraged by his ministry. We will miss him, and we rejoice as he continues to serve seated at the feet of our Lord. Well done, faithful servant, well done.”

Father Winter received a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and a M.Div. from The General Theological Seminary in May 1966 and was ordained a priest in December of that year in the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania. He served three congregations in the diocese – Christ and St. Ambrose, Church of the Advocate and then St. James in Langhorne where he was the rector for 30 years. He came out of retirement to serve as an interim rector for St. Paul’s in Doylestown; Emmanuel Church in Quakertown; and Trinity Church in Oxford. In 2004, he was called to serve as Chaplain to the Retired Clergy, Spouses and Widows for the diocese. In addition, in 2005, he began a 10-year run as associate for St. Andrew’s in Yardley. At one point also serving as interim rector of St. Phillip’s in New Hope.

Father Winter married Nancy Rice Guillet in 1966 and was married to her until her death in 2013. He is survived by their two daughters, Julia and Erika.
