What can you do about gun violence? By The Rt. Rev. Daniel G.P. Gutiérrez

Since January, approximately 932 people have been the victims of gun violence in Philadelphia. Last night, in one moment of gunfire in the city, three people died with 11 more injured.

As the violence repeats itself, day after day, our advice bears repeating. Do something. Start with prayer and then go here for more action ideas.

We lift up to our Lord and Savior the victims and their families.

Responding to Gun Violence

Join a Diocesan Effort.

The diocese's Anti-Gun Violence (AGV) Commission needs your voice. AGV Commission leads many programs including A Year of Faithful Witness, a year-long program to raise awareness about gun violence.  To get involved contact Canon Toneh Smyth, tsmyth@diopa.org. You can watch a short video on efforts here.

The Diocese has partnered with the American Red Cross to host "United As One" blood drive to raise awareness of gun violence and safety. More details here.

Sign Up Your Church.

Join the letter-writing campaign from the Schuylkill Deanery of the Diocese of Pennsylvania to help stop gun violence. As part of our call as Christians to love others as Jesus commanded us to do, once a month all the churches of the Schuylkill Deanery will be signing and sending letters to our elected representatives. These letters will advocate for common sense gun control in Pennsylvania. Watch this video from a young member of the deanery to learn more.

Take Action with EPPN.

EPPN is the Episcopal Public Policy Network, a grassroots network of Episcopalians across the country dedicated to carrying out the Baptismal Covenant call to “strive for justice and peace” through the active ministry of public policy advocacy.

Engage with BUAGV.

BUAGV is Bishops United Against Gun Violence. Bishop Gutiérrez is a co-convener of BUAGV,  a group of more than 100 Episcopal bishops working to curtail the epidemic of gun violence in the United States.
