Your Help Needed with “Blessing Bags”

Your Help Needed with “Blessing Bags”

According to Project Home, approximately 15,000 people, including families, access shelter in Philadelphia each year. For those staying in shelters, basic items – toothpaste, tissues, etc. – are too expensive.

At this year’s Diocesan Convention, participants will help assemble 250 “blessing bags” for those that are experiencing homelessness.  The bags will contain non-perishable items and toiletries that are easy to carry and in high need for people living or staying in shelters.

The Diocese is asking parishioners and churches to help us collect the necessary items now in advance of Convention.  Even if you are not attending Convention, you can help us reach our goal by purchasing items now.  The full list is on Amazon. Items purchased can be sent or dropped off to our offices, 3717 Chestnut Street, 3rd Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19104, c/o Canon Toneh Smyth.

If your church is purchasing items together, we can arrange a collection time. Please contact Canon Smyth, twilliams@diopa.org.

“…If anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” (1 John 3:17-18)
