Music at St. Mary's

Music at St. Mary's

A typical Sunday features congregational singing of Hymns from The Hymnal 1982, as well as music for the Ordinary of the Mass, and organ music. Congregational singing is encouraged and we are familiar with several mass settings, and hymns that are chosen to reflect the scriptures throughout the Liturgical Year. The music is accompanied on our fine Patrick J. Murphy and Associates Pipe Organ.  This small and extremely versatile organ accompanies the congregation, children from the Sunday School and guest soloists and it can play the whole breadth of organ repertoire from all centuries. On special occasions, we supplement our accompaniment with guest instrumentalists or singers from the larger community, including Cathedral Village. There are Organ Recitals in the Spring, sponsored by St. Mary’s as a benefit for various agencies that serve the community, and we often hold a month of Tuesday Noon Recitals sponsored by the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Guild Of Organists.
